Inflammation:-

Inflammation is the body defense reaction and it is defined as the local response of living mammalian tissue to injury.

It is a natural process and it happens as our body responds to pain and injury. Basically, it is our body’s way of healing itself. Suppose, you are having an injury to your ankle then immediately your body is going to send more blood there and your ankle is going to become more inflamed that’s your body’s way of protecting itself from future injury. So that heat and swelling are actually your body attempt to heal that area.

The suffix -itis is employed to explain inflammation.

Name of area + itis = Name of condition

E.g – Appendicitis – inflammation of the appendix, Tonsillitis – inflammation of tonsils, Periodontitis – inflammation of periodontium.

Types of Inflammation:-

1). Acute inflammation (Short time illness)

2). Chronic inflammation (Long time illness)

Signs of inflammation:-

1). Heat (Calor) – due to vasodilation and increased blood flow.

2). Swelling (Tumor) – fluid accumulation in the extravascular area due to increased membrane permeability.

3). Pain (Dolar) – activation of inflammatory mediators like Histamine and Bradykinin which stimulate nerve-ending pain.

4). Redness (Rubor) – due to vasodilation and increased blood flow.

5). Loss of function (Functio Laesa) – the movement of an inflamed area can result in pain and swelling.

How does Inflammation occur?

Immune cells are already present in the body cells and are ready to start an inflammatory response to injury. These cells are Mast cells, Macrophages, Histamines, Kupffer cells and Histiocytes. Once activated, immune cells release inflammatory mediators causing pain, swelling, loss of function, heat and redness.

Foods that cause Inflammation:-

Suger – which is also called sucrose and high fructose corn syrups are highly associated with causing inflammation in your body which can ultimately lead to diseases (fatty liver, diabetes, insulin resistance, obesity, cancer, chronic kidney disease and heart disease). Avoid food that is high in fructose like candies, sodas, pastries, cookies and doughnuts.

Trans fats – these are some of the unhealthiest foods that you eat. Trans fats are artificially created and essentially our body does not like them. Increase levels of trans fats in diet cause Inflammation within adipose tissue (fat tissue) and cause heart disease and arthritis. Trans fats include pastries, french fries, margarine, hydrogenated oils and baked goods that stay on the shelves longer.

Process meats – these are highly associated with heart disease, obesity and cancer because these foods are cooked at higher temperatures and definitely cause Inflammation in our body. Foods included in this category are bacon, sausage, smoked meats, deli meats, ham and jerky.

Monosodium Glutamate – it is a flavor-enhancing additive that is added to food. It is an additive that easily triggers different types of Inflammation and causes issues in your liver foods. These foods include prepared foods, pre-packaged, soups and fast food.

Gluten – it cause Inflammation of joint pain, celiac disease and also damages the small intestine. Avoid food that contains gluten. These foods contain bread, beer, cakes, wafers, etc.

Treatment:-

Inflammation usually heals quickly with RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation). Perform these things to cure inflammation.
