Orthopaedic Manual therapy (OMT) is one of the most useful treatment performed by physiotherapist.

MT (Manual Therapy) started in late 460-300 BC, when father of medicine, Hippocrates coined the terms of Traction, Manipulation and Joint Reduction. Then it passed through family to family. Hippocrates is credited with being the first to believe that disease were caused by natural causes rather than superstition or god’s punishment. He separated medicine with religion

In 1813, Perh Henrik Ling who os known as father of gymnastic, first time introduce physiotherapy in his institute RCIG (Royal Central Institute of Gymnastics)

Many practitioners came to RCIG including James Henry Cyriax.

In 1874, Andrew still founded Osteopathy technique.

In 1887, Physiotherapy is officially registered by sweden international board of health & wellness.

In 1895, Chiropractic founded by Danial David Palmar while applying an adjustment to Harvey Lillard to T4 vertebrae that resulted in restoration of lost hearning

In 1921, American PT association found and first president was Mary McMillion who introduced four branches of Physiotherapy:-

1) Manipulation of muscles and joints

2) Therapeutic exercises

3) Electrotherapy

4) Hydrotherapy.

In 1945, Norway resident Frady M Kalthenborn who used to give lectures of james cyriax and then founded Arthrokinematic, Concavo-convex rule and 3 grades of mobilization.

In 1964, Maitland gives 5 grades of mobilization.

In 1970, Robin Anthony Mckenzie gives manual therapy in extension position for spine.

In 1980, Butler found Nerve mobilization with the help of nerve tension technique.

In 1990, Brian Mulligan comes with new techniques called MWM, NAG and SNAG
